Shades of Silence
I am drawn to the contours and transformational qualities of the natural world, as well as, to the things we, humans, have in common.
My current body of work are imaginary and familiar references to the topography of the earth based on my extensive travels and interactions with the natural environment, especially water. My intention, in my paintings, is to capture an aesthetic moment of awe or quiet, and, in my mixed-media pieces, I question our relationship to the ecosystem and surface of the earth.
The passion for my work comes from honing on the familiar, like painting and sketching, while exploring, learning and stretching to find new ways, in my art practice, to make aesthetic and cultural statements. Art holds the potential of the human mind. It’s one of the last frontiers of democratic expression.
